I normally only shoot complete creatures, I figure if God made them complete then that's the way I should show them.

But sometimes I shoot just a head shot when I want to feature a detail. In this case it's the eye. Alligator's have a heavy duty eye lid to protect the eye. Separately, they have a vertical slit for a pupil as seen in this picture. Here the slit is very narrow because the alligator is looking directly into the sun.
