My Nikon D2X camera and my favorite 70-200mm VR lens are being repaired by Nikon so, for the last half of January, I've had to make do with my trusty Nikon D70 and my Nikon 60mm Micro and 300mm VR lenses. Can you see the difference in picture quality between the pictures taken with a  $5000, 12 mega pixel D2X camera and those below taken with an $900, 6 mega pixel D70 camera?

The following pictures were shot with a Nikon D2X.

My take is that I am pleased with the results from both cameras. However, in looking at the montage view and the individual pictures, the D2X pictures seem to have richer colors with darker darks and brighter brights.

As for shooting the two cameras, I greatly prefer the D2X for it's bigger/clearer viewfinder, faster/better autofocus, vertical grip, and the additional pixels that let me use the high speed crop function for additional reach. However, I do seem to have an easier time getting sharp images when using my 300mm VR lens with a 1.7X teleconverter, hand held, with my D70 than with my D2X.
