A Cypress Knee. Both Pond and Bald Cypress trees have knees.

As to what the knees are for, experiments have pretty much ruled out their role in augmenting the Oxygen supply of the host tree.

Another theory is that they help anchor the tree in low, wet areas and is supported by the observation that Cypress trees at higher elevations do not have knees.
