One of the now over 100 American Coots that have returned to winter here.

American Coots look a lot like the Common Moorhen. However, there are distinct differences.

For example American Coots have a white beak whereas Common Moorhens have a red beak.

And their feet are dramatically different in that Common Moorhens have regular birdlike toes whereas American Coots have webbed toes that make them much better swimmers.
