A Tricolored Heron standing guard by its two dead chicks in the nest in the Pond Apple Tree at the entrance.

Sad. For the last six weeks or so  I watched these birds build their nest, lay their eggs, and feed the two chicks that hatched out of the four eggs they laid.

Now the chicks, about two weeks old are lying dead in their nest. I have no idea how they died - they seemed so healthy.

And all that's left is for the parents to grieve and wonder why.

Some days I think I'm just not tough enough to be a wildlife photographer.
