The first pair of Great Blue Herons to start a nest on Anhinga Island.

A few days ago this pair was staking out the higher branches of this tree where nests have been built in prior years.

But I think they opted for a more stable platform. And, for what it's worth, I agree with their decision.

Now it remains to be seen if any other birds, be they Great Blue Herons or Anhingas, will build on the higher branches.
