A Pied-billed Grebe shot up close while on a timeout from hunting.

When these birds are hunting it's hard to get a good shot of them as they keep on diving under water to hunt. Worse yet, they purposely travel away you when they are hunting, so that each time they surface they are farther away.

But when they are resting they are more approachable ... probably because they have time to keep a watchful eye on you.
